St. James Town is said to be one of the largest high-rise communities in Canada, built in the 1960's and inspired by Le Corbusier's "Towers in the Park" concept. It is 19 residential high rise buildings each named after a Canadian city and was originally designed to accommodate young "swinging single" middle class residents and was key to post-recession, post-war recovery. Today the neighbourhood's vibrancy comes from the high number of first generation immigrants.
