Sightseeing

Stunning place to visit, cant recommend this one enough. The shuttle bus hasn't been in operation due to covid so there's a approximately 2k walk to the castle. Could be a little much for smaller kids to walk. Great trail to the castle you'll see wild deer and the lough views are amazing. Castle tours are held during summer months. Fantastic walled formal gardens. Beyond the castle the trail continues to the waterfall, well worth the extra 3k. Great coffee shop on site - open during summer. Well worth the visit should be a definite on the list!

Great views! If the tour is on definitely do it the fella that takes it is full of great information, loads of history! There's usually a coffee stand on arrival, serves lovely hot chocolate for the kiddies. If your lucky enough to visit on a clear day the view is just amazing!

You can't visit and miss this! A walk. On this beach will reset your soul. Its long, sandy and so big, even on a busy day it's not overcrowded. If the tide is out and you get the opportunity to walk all three beaches, make your way to the mountain end there's a few caves to see.

Rathmullan

Only 15 minute drive from Portsalon along mountain road with stunning views along the way. Rathmullan is a favourite of ours, we walk the beach, watch the fishermen on the pier and visit the antique store. There is a great play park for kids. There's a few great spots to eat: Bells kitchen - during covid it's takeaway only, can be busy so ring order in. Rathmullan House - definitely book ahead they can be very busy, great food, service on the lawn, the pizza seems to be a big favorite.
