Sightseeing

Just behind Overstrand is Horsey Gap. Renowned for the thousands of grey seals which turn up to give birth every year, there is more than just the view of the beach. More than 2,000 pups were born and raised at Horsey Gap last winter and it is an occasion that shouldn’t be missed. Beyond the seal watching, Horsey beach is for those who want to swap the crowds and the typical attractions for soft sand, excellent water quality and tranquillity. The car park is £3, making it one of the cheapest beaches for parking.

Soft sand, beautiful seas, miles of beach walking and even at its busiest, you can walk to where its quiet - Sea Palling is my favourite beach in Norfolk. Dogs are welcome all year with just a minor restriction of area between March and September.

This is just a little further on from the seals. It's got nearly 5 stars from over 851 reviews - Ian Singleton, a Local Guide said: Fantastic!!!👍 Poppylands is truly a journey back in time. From the wall to wall collection of 1940s memorabilia that's placed in original cupboards, and shelving to the music playing in the background and how the staff are dressed the attention to detail is brilliant. On entering the carpark you're met with a military guard box, an unexploded bomb, and bomb shelter. When you enter the small courtyard there's a small train crossing and a delightful gift shop. All styled as it was in back in the 40s. The food is great, specially the lovely large scones. Prices are reasonable. A large Tea for 2 came in a huge tea pot with a woolly teacosy keeping the brew warm. It would've taken us all afternoon to finish the pot. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Dogs are very welcome, you can even take them upstairs if you want to go indoors. I recommend Poppylands to anyone and everyone. If there were 6 stars available I would give it the full 6.

Cromer Pier is a Grade II listed seaside pier and is home to the Cromer Lifeboat Station and the Pavilion Theatre. There are records of a pier in Cromer as early as the 1390s. But the best bit is sitting with your feet dangling over and a bag of chips.

Management of the Horsey estate emphasises nature conservation. Because of this, the estate has become an internationally important wildlife site. On the estate there are waymarked circular walks, the main one being the path via Brograve Mill; the walk provides great views across Horsey Mere and access to the beach at Horsey Gap. There are many windmills in this particular area, including West Somerton Mill, Heigham Holmes Mill, Brograve Mill, and Lambrigg Mill. Horsey Windpump is open daily from March to October.

A stately home which is part of the Blickling estate, Blickling Hall is located in the village of Blickling, north of Aylsham in Norfolk, England and has been in the care of the National Trust since 1940. It's beautiful and historically interesting. There's also an escape room there and Anne Boleyn, whose childhood home this was, wanders around with her head beneath her arm. What are you waiting for?

A National Trust property, Felbrigg Hall is a 17th-century English country house near the village of that name in Norfolk. The unaltered 17th-century house is noted for its Jacobean architecture and fine Georgian interior. Outside is a walled garden, an orangery and orchards. Parking is only £2 at present and is free if you are a member of the NT.

An art gallery and museum on the campus of the University of East Anglia, The Sainsbury Centre contains a collection of world art, was one of the first major public buildings to be designed by the architects Norman Foster and Wendy Cheesman, completed in 1978. It's cool and the grounds of UEA are, too - perfect for a picnic by the water.

Towns and Cities

The capital city of Norfolk, and filled with history - from the remains of the old Medievel city walls all around to the Norwich Castle museum, itself, with a splendidly eccentric and interesting collection of mummies, death masks (from when it was the county prison) and art. The market is attractive and the Forum, built after the main Library burned down some years ago, contains the new library, coffee houses and broadcasting studios. Visit Elm Hill to find one of the most picturesque streets in East Anglia, which is used a lot in TV and film dramas.

I love Great Yarmouth. It's blowsy and ballsy and you can get horse and carriage rides all the way along the front, loop the loop and eat too much candy floss at the Pleasure Beach. You can punt the penny falls at Caesar's, eat in one of the many traditional cafes along the prom and get golden sand between your toes to boot. I can't think of a place that screams cheery, seaside break in quite the same way.
