Food scene
Maclean has a surprising array of dining options, ranging from the usual country town selection of eat in and/or takeaway businesses to pub and club food and some more upmarket options. Options include;
•fish and chip shops (our preference being the fishermen’s cooperative on River Street; at the Yamba end of Maclean),
•a newly opened wine bar/pizza place,
•Chinese food (we recommend Peking Chinese at 183 River street),
•the local RSL or Bowls clubs,
•the Maclean Hotel, downtown at 28 River Street (good pizza and daily specials),
•a bakery, and
•a number of cafes on River Street.
The bacon and egg rolls at the Back Shop takeaway (at the pedestrian crossing on Centenary Drive) is a favourite takeaway breakfast option.
A short 4 minute drive reveals a hidden secret: the fabulous Sanctus brewery and distillery. Great food and drinks including a range of Sanctus beers and spirits.
A modern coffee culture venue that is open for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Lunch options OK. Better for breakfast and great for a leisurely coffee and cake. Indoor/outdoor seating. Children’s play area. Dog friendly, with tie up points and water bowls in the outdoor seating area. There can, however, be a wait when things are busy. Open Fri-Wed for breakfast and lunch (closes 3pm except weekends; 2.30 Saturdays and 1.30 Sundays)

New supermarket with a great variety of fresh and prepackaged foodstuffs. Pre cooked pork roast from the deli is a favourite as is fresh OJ squeezed on site.

22 High St YAMBA. Super fresh, yummy Turkish food. A local secret. Breakfast and lunch/brunch favourite (Tues-Fri). Licenced. Walk in only and just a few sidewalk tables so be prepared to wait. Well worth it.

Maclean Fisherman's Co-op. 51-55 River Street, Maclean. Locally caught seafood, supplemented by thawed seafood from other sources. Ask what is fresh and local when buying!
