This is a dive bar within walking distance of my house that serves the best boiled crawfish that I've ever had in New Orleans that wasn't made at home by my Cajun friends. Boils are every Friday at 4:30 during crawfish season (from about February to late April). Plan to get there early and wait because it's popular, but you can drink and hang while you wait for your food. Also has other food on menu for those of you not inclined to consume many, many crustaceans.

Great little international market stocking lots of hookah tobacco and equipment and many necessaries for most international community members. Open until 9pm most nights. Does not sell alcohol but does sell ice cream and baklava. Would not recommend walking anywhere in city alone after dark or looking to obviously flashy with jewelry, etc.
Restaurant attached has nice outdoor seating for good weather when you want a quick bite.

Great little breakfast and brunch joint with ample outdoor seating in a nice area for nice days. (Actually there isn't indoor seating). Try the Mushroom sweet potato and brown rice turnover...it's delicious. There are some parts of outdoor seating that are covered for rain and most tables have umbrellas for shade. You can also sit on grass in front of restaurant picnic style. I've seen pop up bike repair shops there in past too if your bike needs checking.

This bar is owned and operated by famed bartender Chris McMillian, a founder of New Orleans Tales' of the Cocktail. It's very low key and casual but has very upscale cocktails. Menu includes fancy sandwiches and snacks which, as far as I've experienced, have all been delicious. Really great marinated olives. My drink of choice is the GIN BASIL SMASH - so refreshing and delicious.
The website very helpfully includes a full food menu with prices and a bar menu (also with prices).
Off the beaten path but definitely worth visiting and walkable from my house!

Beautiful old oak trees, art museum, golf course, big pond, tracks for exercise, 24 hour beignets and coffee available at Morning Call, sculpture garden, botanical garden. There's an amusement park for kids and put-put golf course. It's HUGE and there's ton to do and it doesn't tend to be too crowded. Fun for everyone or great place to just relax. Easy bike, walk, or streetcar ride from my place. Less touristy than Audubon. Much bigger. Often live music available through different organizations such as the botanical garden.

This man-made bayou hosts several free festivals a year and is a great place to go for a run, walk, or bike in the neighborhood. You'll see pick up volleyball games and other gatherings there and you could easily go there to bbq or have a crawfish boil. Connects to the Lafitte corridor which runs all the way downtown.

This beauty supply store is one of my favorites. They have almost anything you can imagine. Aside from regular hair products they also sell some of the best and cheapest fake eyelashes I've seen in this city, hair spray glitter, costume makeup, and lots of sparkly costume pieces like the silver sequined tube top I bought for a last minute costume last year. They also sell wig caps if you are out and the store next door, #1 Wigs sells full wigs of varying qualities. Highly recommend for any last minute beauty items you might need although please note that they do not carry brands you would more commonly see in Walgreens, etc.

This uptown boutique is a great place to go for bridal wear, fancy lingerie, cocktail attire and custom-made hats. The store has been around for decades and is a New Orleans institution. It's worth going just to experience the characters there. And it's near the famous Camellia Grill so you could kill two birds with one stone.

Also at the top of each odd hour, wwoz announces who is playing music where so can be helpful. They call it the livewire and is also available on their website.
