Scenic Places and Hiking Trails
I cannot tell you how amazing the beaches and hiking trails are around Jenner. I've tried to show you here curtesy of Jack Journey's of Journey Graphics photographs. You will need to stay an extra day or two to see everything here. This is an undiscovered ecotourism paradise!
Jenner Headlands Preserve
12001 CA-1Take the hike along the bluff and the wooden walkway towards Goat Rock Beach. Its safe and easy to navigate unless there's been a lot of rain and then it can be harder in the areas not on the wooden walk.

The campground is really the start of the trail to the coast. This is a historic valley and it's easy to imagine an Indian settlement here. You can explore along the Russian River and then take a hike all the way to Shell Beach if you're up to it. Or, on the other end find the entrance at Shell Beach entry point Just across Hwy 1. Park in the beach parking lot and walk back to the hwy.

This trail goes from the Willow Creek camp ground all the way to the coast. The Miwak and the Pomo Indians used this trail and it is really a stunning hike! If you plan to take the entire hike, I recommend someone dropping a car at the other end at Shell Beach before you take off.

Bodega Head Trail
Bodega Head TrailThis beach can be dangerous because the waves can get very big unexpectedly. Stay off the rocks and hike the coast at low tide to be safe. Otherwise there are two parking lots to choose from. The one on the sandy beach has access to the river side which is always calm and suitable for children. take the path just past the public restrooms to the right and you will be amazed at the scenes there!
The other lot is paved and around to the left. That gives you access to a dog friendly beach where you can get a look at Arched Rock.

This is a collection of delightful shops run by local merchants and restaurants on both sides of 116/River Road at Duncan Mills. Don't miss the very popular and infamous Christopher Queen Gallery. Say hi to Nancy from us. Cape Fear always has good food and a nice Sunday brunch.
Across the street you will find the best breakfast pastries anywhere, a train museum, the State Park office and our favorite local hang out for live music and big hamburgers, The Blue Herron. Locals call it The Blue....

Occidental is a great place to visit for breakfast at Howards! while there look around for history and shops galore. These stores are all unique and full of art from the best of the local artisans. Occidental is know for its many fine restaurants so go back for dinner or to rest and meditate in the Grove of Old Redwoods.
Canopy Tours is just back down the road! Don't leave town without sending someone in your group on the best (and scariest) zip line anywhere!

Bodega Bay is where you go for taffy and kites, crab oysters and fishing boat trips! Oh, there is a wonderful surf store, Ren Brown Gallery and the Tides and Lucas Warfighters Restaurants. Along the way stop at at the state Parks for pictures and hikes. This is one of the most liked parts of the California coast line and there is just so much to explore all around Jenner south to north!

Just a short drive of Jenner is Gualala! I like the art and archetecture stops but again also enjoy the scenic beaches along the way. In Gualala enjoy the good home town atmosphere and food.

Wineries
My son Cory Rowin is Jackson Family Wines District Manager After much thought and input from many guests on winery tours from Casa Panama I wanted to make some personal recommendations for you!
The Fort Ross Sea View is an appellation right next to us in Jenner. Three of the wineries in that group are Fort Ross Vineyards, Hirsch and Flowers. Others that are near by are Korbal, Landmark, Williams Selyem, Artista, Rochioli, Moshin. A bit further is La Crema and Copain. Heading twenty minutes east towards Sebastopol, he recommends Heartford Court, Martinelli, Dutton Gold, Merriments Edwards and Littorai! These wines and others can be tasted at Sophies Cellars in Duncans Mills.
Just a 15-minute drive north. Just past the curves and what my son calls “Dracula’s Castle” on the inland side. It’s a really remote location down a drive past a pond with deer life and wildlife standing around like out of a Disney movie. This is a well healed destination so put on your best Sonoma County sportswear! The winery is known for its Pinot and Chardonnays but be sure to try the “Pinotage”. The wines are very good but what Cory thinks is important is this is a true Sonoma County Coast winery open to the public.

An important Sonoma County Coastal winery that is only open to wine members. If you are a member do not miss a visit. If not catch up with them on in Healdsburg at the tasting room there.

This is one of the foundational wineries of the Russian River vineyards. They do a tour and have a lot of history to share. The sparkling wine is always a favorite and there is an excellent deli on property that is one of the best places for lunch in the immediate area.

This is a winery you would want to set aside some extra time for! It’s one of my favorites because there is so much to do and see. Be sure to allow enough time to explore the display garden of varietals, the areas of organic gardens that provide produce for food and wine pairing, the kitchen, the cook book, the patio behind the winery that can seat up to 300 guests. Don’t miss the food and wine pairing you can have for yourself with a reservation in advance!
