Swinton Castle is a 5 star hotel just 5 minutes drive from the cottage. It has an amazing gym, spa (with outdoor pool and hot tub) and grounds. There is a cookery School onsite. It has 2 restaurants (Samuels - High end) and The Terrace (relatively new, beautiful setting with an emphasis on locally grown produce). They have amazing parties and a wonderful Christmas schedule. The Afternoon Tea is sheer indulgence. We love to visit and are regulars. The grounds have a walled garden, birds of prey and deer along with a hidden park, lakes and so much more. Its a wonderful place to visit.

Hackfall Woods is a place of wonder, free to roam its a vast expanse of woods with streams, follies, stepping stones, a fountain and even a beach! It is wonderful to explore and after 7 years of living in Grewelthorpe I still haven't seen it all. Exploring the hidden treasures is such a treat, dogs are free to run off the lead. There are trees to climb and shallow water perfect for splashing in wellie boots, its the ultimate Sunday adventure and all within walking distance of the cottage.

Recently opened Grantley Hall is the ultimate in luxury. Visiting here for lunch or dinner is a treat, the sweeping drive and exceptional service is nothing short of how you would expect royalty feel every day. We love this place and highly recommend it. We are yet to try the Asian restaurant but we have heard good things, we can however vouch for the lunch service.

One of the best hidden gems in our area, a hideaway cafe serving fresh food (the sausage sandwiches with chilli jam are amazing!) its got a relaxed family vibe, they welcome muddy paws inside too. There is a children's play area downstairs with toys, owls to visit outside along with a little playground. It opens until around 8pm on a Friday and a Saturday and in summer has BBQ's and live music. Its uber cute (think tree lodge with fairy lights) and under-utilised! Whilst here you must visit the druids temple for a walk. Its around 5 minutes from the cottage by car through the open countryside
