Accessing and exiting the water requires walking over some rough lava, so wear wear good sandals and be prepared to maybe getting a scrape or two, The snorkeling is excellent and worth the effort. Not for the older or younger groups. Visit the National Historic Monument next door to learn about Hawaii culture.

Downside --- you access this beach thru a private resort and there is limited parking for the public. If you do get in, you will discover a wonderful beach with plenty of shade.

If you do not mind driving down a very rough road to get to the parking lot and then walking a bit you will discover three wonderful beaches. The farther you hike (1 mile at most) the more the beaches become unpopulated. Bring drinks and snacks, there are no services.

One of the greatest adventures available is the opportunity to either dive or snorkel with manta rays at night. We have not heard a single negative review of this experience.
