Beutiful mountain town on the south side of the lake. Reminds you of Switzerland architecture. You could make a day trip but recommend staying a night in one of their nice cabins, we usually book on Airbnb. Get out into nature with all the pine trees ect, breath the fresh air. It is a lite cooler here especially during the winter months. Take a walk or ride out to see the water fall and beautiful homes along the way.

if you are visiting during the right time of year you have to see all the pelicans on the lake.
Its real name is American White Pelican, it is one of the largest birds in North America, with an extension of the wings of 3 meters from end to end and weighing 7.75 kilograms on average.
Every year, from the months of November to March, Lake Chapala receives thousands of yellow-billed pelicans in its waters, known as the Bourbon pelicans, a very social bird, which has an exemplary group life and in perfect harmony with environment.
Despite its weight and size, it has a funny and harmonious flight, in addition, they create figures in the sky as if they were giving a ballet show.
They arrive in late October and return to southern Canada and northern United States in early May.
In Michoacán, they approach the island of Petatán, in the municipality of Cojumatlán, where they are given the remains of filleting of mojarras and carps
