Food Scene
Ore House is Durango's oldest continuously operating restaurant, and certainly one of the finest. Featuring some of the highest quality meats you can find (some are processed by the Chef in-house,) a terrific cocktail scene, and one of the best wine lists in town, Ore House is one of our go-to restaurants in the area. The staff is amazing, the food is terrific, and the mining-era ambiance is fun and inviting. Give this one a try, for sure!

Eolus is a fantastic destination for local cuisine and fine dining in the heart of Main Street Durango. Showcasing an innovative menu that features an abundance of local products and a solid wine list - and the bar ain't too shabby either!
Pro tip - Eolus also has one of the best rooftop patio's in Durango, with drop-down, see-through walls that keep the patio open for most of the year. Enjoy a fine dinner and catch a view of both the local mountain scenery and if you time it just right, the train will roll through just steps away from the back of the restaurant and below you - super cool!

Nini's is the coolest local place to grab a quick bite - taco's, burrito's, quesadilla, or chips - this place is great for something on the go or a budget lunch. Great folks, fresh food, and very affordable. My favorite taco joint!

When I came to Durango more than five years ago, I sold the coffee roasting business I started in Denver way back in 2006. 81301 is my coffee shop of choice - they have the best roasting in town (by far,) great pour-over coffee and espresso drinks, and a super friendly staff. It is a bit out of the way, being on the north end of town, but I guarantee it will be the best coffee you can get here in Southwestern Colorado.

If you want a bit more "salt of the earth" bar scene, Derailed Pour House is for you. And a secret benefit? The bartender may be one of the most celebrated bartenders in Durango. Bridgett Tesmer has been Durango's Bartender of the Year multiple times, and has a youthful vibrance that basically can't be matched - and she can make a killer cocktail for sure!
With live music and a solid, affordable menu, Derailed is a perfect place to settle in and hang with the people!

Steamworks is the most centrally located of Durango's six breweries in town, and is an especially large space. But having said that, there is often a wait during the most popular times. A classic brewpub, they offer all the classic pubfare with a great collection of beers brewed in the same building as the restaurant. Don't miss the back patio on a perfect spring or fall afternoon!

Ska Brewing is my favorite brewpub, hands down, and is one of the most popular destinations for beer lovers in town. Located just a bit out of core downtown Durango, Ska is a fun place to throw a few back, and if it is warm out, enjoy their casual and comfortable outdoor space. They have a small food operation for pub fare, and rumor has it that they are expanding their kitchen over the coming year. Check them out.

Bookcase and Barber is a fantastic speakeasy (and barbershop) located in an old bookstore in a walking alley. And yes, being a speakeasy, you must have the password! (found on their Instagram profile.) "Meet me at the Bookcase" is a common phrase around town, and the quality and theme of the place is top notch. I real Durango original!

Arts & Culture
If you are into Native American art and culture, the Center for Southwest Studies museum and gallery at Fort Lewis is fantastic. Not huge, so you can enjoy it fairly quickly, it is curated by one of the best Anthropological staffs in the country. A true Durango asset.

If you like bookstores, this is an absolute must-do. The staff is highly knowledgeable and very engaged in the literary scene, both locally and nationally. And now recently, the son of the long-time owners of the shop has stepped up to take the reins for the future - a great step for Durango. So, if you like nationally acclaimed bookstores like Tattered Cover (Denver) or Powells (Portland) or Back of Beyond (Moab,) give Maria's a try - we are confident you will not be disappointed!!
