Things to Do
Beaufort is rich in history dating to the days long before Blackbeard and his crews sailed the sounds nearby.
An incredibly well preserved Civil War era fort. The displays are authentic and the view? Whew!! From the top of the wall one could see the ships at sea for miles. The property includes a huge area of public beaches where you can stretch out and set up a picnic on the water all alone.

Cape Lookout is one of the most interesting of our National Parks. For nearly 60 miles the barrier islands making up the park stretch along the North Carolina coastline. A ferry trip to the Cape is a 'must do' when visiting the Beaufort area.

It's confirmed! The wild ponies of Shackleford Banks are indeed direct descendants of the coastal ponies of Spain. In other words, you can visit the island and view a snapshot of history living among us that has survived everything Mother Nature has thrown at them - for over 400 years.

Southern Magazine's "Best Small Town in the South 2019" welcomes visitors to a taste of down east. You won't find fast food restaurants or high rise condos here. Instead a community of people who's ancestry dates back 13 generations and more. This is the old south and why we love it here so very much.
