Pagoda is my favorite local gathering spot. Not only is the coffee delicious and the breakfast tacos scrumptious, the cafe brings together the community. Tips: try the mango lassi and the rum cake is decadently delicious.

Buttermilk Drop has really, really good donuts and hot breakfasts to go and is a local institution. If in doubt about what to get, just get the buttermilk drops (large donut holes). Fun fact: the father from Beasts of the Southern Wild was discovered and cast in that role because the director and other members of the film crew used to go to the bakery regularly.

Vietnamese fusion at its best. Vietnamese options abound in New Orleans, but this place add a little something extra. Everything is yummy and combines interesting flavors. The patio in the back is nice for sitting outside.

Angelo Brocato is a New Orleans institution. It's a family style Italian gelato spot that's been around over 100 years. The cookies are also delicious!

Classic poboys. Known for their roast beef pony, but they’re all good. Get one to go and eat while sitting by the nearby bayou.
