Favorite restaurants
Some of the best restaurants for breakfast, lunch or dinner in Haarlem.
Van de Sande is the best option for a good and affordable meal, just around the corner of our home. This would probably be the most Dutch meal you can find in a restaurant. It is family friendly and has a small but frequently changing menu with meat, fish and vegetarian options. They have a great terrace if you want to enjoy a glass of wine in the afternoon or evening sun. It can be busy in the weekend so be sure to make a reservation.

In the Netherlands we have a lot of Indonesian restaurants, this one is the best in Haarlem. Definitely try the traditional 'rijsttafel'. The place is quite big, but recommendable to make reservations on the weekend.

This 1 star Michelin restaurant servers not the most experimental food but it does servers the perfect dishes. Balanced and exploding with flavour. Their signature dish (of course) is Ratatouille and it is absolutely one of my favourite dishes I have ever tasted.
They have some good lunch deals which you usually can make a last minute reservation for, just check their website. Mmmmm!

This is the best Dutch fries you can get anywhere in the Netherlands. It is biological and home made. There can be a small que but it is worth the wait. Just walk with your fries to the square at central station or the park behind it sit down and enjoy your very Dutch fries.

This is a special place just around the corner. But it can be a bit hard to find since it is located in the middle of public park and vegetable garden. In the café they serve all kinds of delicious sandwiches, salads, coffee and juices. There is a more quiet part in the café, but also a larger area where there is plenty of space for kids to run around. Outside there is also a natural playground.

Shopping
Some of the nicest places to shop for groceries or some fun shopping. Clothing will speak for itself, there a so many shops in Haarlem, it is hard to miss. But definitely check out the Kleine Houtstraat, Schagchelstraat, de Koningstraat en de Gierstraat.
This is our favourite market to go grocery shopping on Saturday, on Friday there is a biological farmers market. You can buy good Dutch cheese, fish and vegetables. Don't forget to have a coffee at Mogador, go to the smallest but best stocked mini supermarket Mabrouk (it is an experience) and the oldest pharmacist in Haarlem van der Pigge. Walk from here into the Gierstraat where you can find small speciality shop for everything you could probably (n)ever need.
