Very close to the house. Not the fanciest place but the food is always good so we usually do it as takeout. Big portions - be prepared to over order. We often order a single dinner platter (Chicken parmigiana, salad with parmigiana peppercorn, homemade cavatelli in the bolognese sauce, comes with bread) and share amongst two adults who are always fully satisfied. No delivery (pick up only) and needs to be paid in cash (there is an ATM).

This is the special place to go when there is a cause to celebrate. Saturday brunch is the best - anytime you have a reservation for food at the Mountain House you get onto the property for free. The locals will get lunch reservations and spend the day over there hiking and it costs about the same as just paying entrance and you get a meal out of it.

Are you a serious hiker? Have you already done Gertrudes Nose and want another nice long hike exploring the other parts of the park? Right here! Park at one of the 10 or so parking spots at Jenny Lane (check google). Walk out of the parking lot onto the main road, turn left, walk 100 yards and then you will see a trail on the other side of the road. Its the SRT (Shawangunk Ridge Trail) and this is my favorite section of hiking trail in the park. About 2.5 miles in you pop out onto the Carraige road. From there you have options: head into Rainbow Falls; walk up the big hill and go swim in the lake; or retreat back towards the Lower Awosting parking lot from which you can hike back down to Jenny Lane . I like to go for the whole thing - hike to rainbow falls, then after the falls continue on the trail across the Upper Awosting carraige road to make your way up to Castle Point, the highest spot in the park. From there, you can come back Blueberry Run (can be a beast if its wet) and then link into the Mossy Glen footpath which gets you to Lower Awosting. You still have about 15 minutes of hiking to get back down to the car at Jenny Lane and I'm not going to lie, its going to be a bit painful by now. 11 or 12ish miles, mostly on singletrack trail... You earned a beer or three my friend.
Strangely enough, this hike does not bring you to the lake. Wonder why I named it as such.... Figure out your own route by downloading Avenza Maps and then buying (for free) the minnewaska state park map.
