This is our favourite authentic Italian – includes moody waiters. It's also on a gorgeous old street in Bloomsbury. This place is always busy, so we recommend booking in advance – make sure you ask for a table upstairs or outside on their heated pavement! A pianist plays most evenings.

Local vegetarian Indian restaurant. This place must have been here forever, it's not romantic fine dining but does have a certain atmosphere. The food is fresh, tasty and cheap and you can bring your own alcohol.

One of the grandest and most authentic pubs in London. If you live in the area, this is where you meet. You can nearly always get a table, there's a great selection of beers. Sometimes hosts live music. Was a location for the film Long Good Friday. Children are welcome but can get quite busy in the evening.

Nearby with great views over London. The "palace" isn't much to look at but has quite a bit of history, most notably it's known as the birthplace of television. There's a lovely park with a boating lake, ice rink (weekends only) and various events throughout the year. Often hosts big gigs. There's also a weekend farmer's market near the park. http://www.alexandrapalace.com/

If it's a nice day and you've got comfortable shoes, we really recommend walking down the Regent's Canal westwards towards Regents Park. The towpath will take you through the famous Camden Markets, Primrose Hill, London Zoo and Regents Park. A must-visit, according to us! The heath is where we have all our birthday picnics. It's a great place to sit and relax, walk and explore, swim in the lido or the natural ponds or visit Kenwood House. Climb to the top of Parliament Hill for one of the best views of London. A roast in the Spaniards Inn is recommended if it's cold outside.

Our favourite Sunday stroll is alongside the little-known River Lea. Start in Marksfield Park and walk east as far as the Olympic Park in Stratford. Stop off in Springfield Park, Walthamstow Marshes and Clapton along the way. The Chatsworth Road has a lovely market and nice cafes at the weekend. And we recommend a pint in the (unglamorous!) Hope and Anchor pub en route where you can watch the narrow boats go by.
