One of the most well-known street stalls in Brickfields selling banana fritters and sesame balls, kuih bakul, and curry puffs. Located in front of One Sentral Coffee Shop opposite YMCA, this humble stall is always surrounded by customers who are waiting for their banana fritters to be freshly deep-fried on the spot. They use only Pisang Raja to prepare the banana fritters, because the banana is bigger in size and very sweet when deep-fried.

Sin Kee is one of the oldest and most well-known Chinese restaurants in Brickfields. Patrons flock here for their one-of-its-kinds Steamed Rice with a choice of pork or seafood ingredients. The Steamed Rice is served in a unique way, because the rice is covered by a red bowl that is turned upside down. Remove the bowl, and you’ll see piping hot steamed rice topped with lots of braised ingredients, including meat slices, fish cakes, vegetables and onions.

A bakery, restaurant and a wine bar combo, Yeast Bistronomy is a quaint, French-themed eatery by restaurateur Christophe Chatron-Michaud and his Malaysian wife, Lissan Teh. Its dine-in menu focuses on French cuisine given Asian touches, like grilled bamboo king prawn with saffron risotto and seared Hokkaido scallop. Also good is mesclun lardons (egg salad) and their quiche Lorraine. At the bakery, madeleines and macaroons are great, but the astonishingly soft and flavoursome artisan French breads, ranging from its bestseller almond croissant to the rare smoked duck cheese puff has christened this our all-time favourite tea-time haunt in KL.

Botanica + Co. Restaurant & Bar lets you enjoy a wide range of local and international dishes whilst being surrounded by lush greenery, thanks to its greenhouse-like setting. Located in Bangsar South and ground floor of EST, its brunch offerings are served until 16:00, with standouts such as the superfood salad, Cuban sandwich, and croque madame. For dinner, we highly recommend the truffle yakiniku don, slow-braised oyster blade, and the Botanica burger. Botanica + Co. Restaurant & Bar KL is also known for its innovative cocktails, especially the Bocoritas, which is a margarita with a choice of peach, yuzu, passionfruit, or strawberry.

Opened by Jaslyn Rangson right next to her namesake bakery/café, this new patisserie/florist marks how far Bangsar’s favourite baker has come since Jaslyn Cakes opened in 2014. While the neighbouring cake shop exudes a homely vibe with a counter packed with honest-to-goodness cakes and pastries, Dew is shiny, elegant and pretty in more ways than one. The charm starts at the entrance, which is dotted with vases in shades of robin egg blue housing pretty flowers and verdant plants for sale by O Flwr, a well-known florist among KL’s socialites. Stop and smell the roses, and maybe bring back a box of flowers for a loved one.

APW’s latest addition Proof Pizza + Wine serves up an artisanal array of pizzas and, well, wine. Although a two-storey space, the restaurant is fairly small, exuding an intimate atmosphere. The first floor is shared between the seating area and the kitchen, while the loft upstairs holds a few booths for small groups. The floor-to-ceiling wine shelf commands your view as you walk in, and there are piles of logs scattered around the restaurant – not just as mere props, but actually used to fuel their impressive wood-fire ovens.

Heli Lounge Bar boasts a concept unlike most bars in Kuala Lumpur - a helicopter pad turned nightlife hotspot is definitely one of the coolest things we have seen in recent times. Situated on the 34th floor of Menara KH, the helipad is still in use during the day, but come sundown, it transforms into a rooftop bar with a portable drink station and simple lounge chairs and tables. The downstairs lounge adopts an aeronautically-oriented theme, with a booth made from the converted side panel of a Boeing 737 and a Boeing-747 turbine turned into a DJ console. Drinks-wise, Heli Lounge Bar offers a satisfying selection of spirits, beers and cocktails.
