A historically significant park - called the world's riches shallow alluvial gold field, in the 1850's gold rush the park was home to thousands of prospectors hoping to find their fortune. Also the site of the Monster Meeting in 1851 15,000 Diggers met to protest about the planned doubling of the licence fee. This took place before the Red Ribbon Rebellion and Eureka Stockade.
