It is the place where Luleå was once founded and grew, from a small church and trading post to a real city. When Luleå was moved due to the land uplift in the 17th century, the place became known in everyday speech as Gammelstad, which means the old town - a name that still lives on today.
UNESCO added Old Town Church City to the World Heritage List in 1996.

Bird-watching
Bird tower near us, about 15 minutes by car
One of our guests saw 15 sea eagles here and also 45 other kinds of birds in the area when they visited our house.
When you drive to this tower, you pass a newly built bird tower with a superb view at Svartskatan (seen almost from the house) 2.4 km from the E4 in Ersnäs.
On the left side of the road there is a small parking lot with room for three cars and a sign about a bird tower.
Park here and walk down the paved path for 200 metres. Note that the tower is not visible from the road.
There are also many birds on the fields in the villages of Ersnäs and Alvik which is near .
