This
cultural center and performance space was
built in 1901 as a combined chapel, monastery and women’s prison. In mid-2007 it was
re-inaugurated to showcase work by Córdoba’s young and emerging artists. The central
patio area houses a couple of hip cafe-bars
where you can kick back with an Appletini
or two. The attached chapel (now desanctified) hosts regular live-music performances;
stop by for a program, or check Thursday’s
edition of the local newspaper La Voz del Interior for details.

The Palacio Ferrerya – Nueva Córdoba’s landmark
building – was built in 1914 and designed
by Ernest Sanson in the Louis XVI style.
The building itself is amazing, and has now
been converted into this fine-arts museum,
featuring more than 400 works in 12 rooms
spread over three floors. If you’re into art or
architecture, this place is a don’t-miss.

sleek two-floor restaurant, set in a narrow

Rodriguez conjures up a gastronomic feast

Capilla del Monte is the more mature alternative to San Marcos Sierras, where the hippie crowd that once settled San Marcos moved to when they ‘grew up.’ This otherwise sleepy town rose to fame in the 1930s when the first UFO sighting was reported.
It has since been drawing UFO watchers from around the world who come here in the hope of communing with extraterrestrials from on top of the nearby Cerro Uritorco. The energy vortexes that are said to surround the town have been a magnet for spiritual seekers of all stripes.

Set around a 17th-century Jesuit-built reservoir, Alta Gracia is a tranquil little mountain town of winding streets and shady parks.
The star attraction here is the 17th-century Jesuit estancia; its exquisite church, nighttime lighting and lovely location between a tiny reservoir and the central plaza make it
one of the most impressive of Córdoba province’s World Heritage sites. Revolutionary Che Guevara spent his adolescence in Alta Gracia and his former home is now a museum. Many people come on day trips from Córdoba, but the city is emerging as a destination in its own right and as a base for exploring the southern Sierras.
